JOE BURTON SIGNS NEW FIRST TEAM DEAL

WE are delighted to announce Joe Burton has penned a new, first-team deal with the club - which means he will be a Bull until at least the end of 2022!

The youngster joined the Bradford Bulls Academy at the back end of 2020 but made an instant impression - with head coach Kear elevating Burton to train with the first team.

A full-back/wing or centre option, Joe featured in a pre-season friendly against Swinton Lions before making his professional debut against the same opponent in the Round Five clash two weeks ago.

Having secured his future, Burton is now targeting more run outs in the red, amber and black and has heaped praise on the Bradford boss.

“It feels good to have signed – I think I am at the right place, I have enjoyed my time since I have been here and I am looking forward to the future," said Burton, who is sponsored by 39 Steps Consulting.

“John [Kear] is a great coach to play for, he tells you how it is and if you need anything then he tells you.

“I feel like I have handled the transition well, it has been a big step up from Academy to First Team but all the lads have been encouraging me, helping me out.

“I was a bit nervous before the Swinton game but I enjoyed it and hopefully I can now try get as many games as possible under my belt.”

Head coach Kear has spoken of his delight at securing Burton’s signature – the Bradford boss full of belief the young back has a big future.

“I am absolutely delighted Joe has signed – I think he has a big future in the game and we offered him a one-year extension to elevate him to the first team which is just reward for his hard work and endeavour," said Kear, who is sponsored by Bradford Bulls Banter.

“His character is one of competitive determination and that certainly shines through and he is obviously a very good player, having played for England Academy.

“He was initially called up to the first team to train as a reward for his efforts with the Academy and then he made a marvellous debut away at Swinton.

“I did not expect him to feature for the first team but I am delighted he’s proved me wrong – this has been forced upon us because he has a big future and we want that to be here at Bradford.”
