FLANAGAN FULL OF CONFIDENCE AHEAD OF FRIDAY FREE HIT

GEORGE Flanagan insists he and his team-mates head into Friday’s ‘free hit’ against Wakefield Trinity with confidence - following Sunday’s Sheffield shutout.

The 33-year-old was originally named as 18th man – however, an injury to Greg Johnson saw Flanagan called into action where he delivered an impressive cameo off the bench

Sunday’s clean-sheet was the second in Bradford’s last three games – with John Kear’s side conceding an average of 4 points per game in that period.

The hooker – having missed the stunning cup triumph against Leeds Rhinos last time out – is eager for another giant-killing at the Mobile Rocket Stadium.

“It was a bit strange – Greg pulled up and Mark Dunning told me I was playing, I got my chance and I thought I did ok and hopefully I am in the window for next week,” said Flanagan, who is sponsored by Blade Access.

“If you are 18th man you prepare as though you are playing for reasons like Sunday and I got called into action and managed to get 32 minutes under my belt so I am delighted.

“I thought it was our best 80 minute performance – we spoke about standards and against Sheffield we needed to lay a marker down on our own turf and we did that.

“We had a few stern words at half-time about not letting ourselves take our foot off the throttle – we are delighted and head into a free hit this Friday with confidence.

“We know we can score points and we take real pride on our defence and take that into this Friday and the season as a whole – there is no pressure on us Wakefield are a quality outfit so we will go out there and see what we can do.

“I missed the Leeds game last year and you want to mix it against the best – hopefully I get the shot and we will see how we go.”
