IN SEARCH OF BRADFORD'S WOMEN'S RUGBY LEAGUE PIONEERS
Since the very earliest days of women’s rugby league, Bradford has been right at the very heart of things.
From Dudley Hill Thunderbirds’ role as a founding club, to the Bradford Bulls women’s team today, Bradford has been a hotbed since the very start.
Now, we want to tell that story in full, but we need your help.
As part of our project ‘The Pioneering Years’ we want to hear the stories of those trailblazing women – and male allies – who laid down the strong foundations upon which the women’s game stands to this day.
Memories, photos, stories, newspaper clippings, and scrapbooks – we want to see everything and anything that we can, hoping to get as big a picture as possible.
If you can help – or know someone who can – please get in touch on social media, or by emailing digital@csi2012.co.uk.
Women’s rugby league history is rugby league history, and we want those early pioneers to get the recognition they deserve, and take their rightful place at the heart of the story of our great sport.
It’s time to celebrate the trailblazers, shine a light on the unsung heroes, and inspire the next generation of women’s rugby league pioneers!
WOMEN IN RUGBY LEAGUE: THE PIONEERING YEARS
The project will rescue and preserve the memories and the records of the women and their male allies who have played and maintained women’s rugby league clubs since the 1980s.
It aims to ensure their achievements are remembered and their legacy is preserved so that girls and young women can learn from their experiences and discover new role models.
The project will collect, catalogue, and display the history of women’s club rugby league, leading to workshops, exhibitions, and other public events in 10 major rugby league-playing towns across northern England.
