BRAND REFLECTS ON BULLS DEBUT

Keanan Brand spoke to the media following his Bradford Bulls debut last weekend – where he helped his new team-mates book a spot in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup semi-finals with an assured display.

The 25-year-old joined on an initial two-week loan prior to Sunday’s quarter-final clash with Swinton Lions. 

Brand started in the centres but twice displayed his versatility, having to fill in at full-back due to Aidan McGowan leaving the field for a Head Injury Assessment. 

Keanan is no stranger to the full-back position following pre-season with Leigh, admitting he was just happy to be back playing. 

“Freddy [Eamon O’Carroll] talked all week about starting with the right intent and I think we did that, we did well as a team and got the job done. Swinton didn’t roll over but we knew they wouldn’t. We knew we needed to roll our sleeves up and we did that quite well,” said Brand. 

“I think the boys rallied well when things didn’t go our way, we defended our line really well, we went down to 12 men but dealt with it fine and we kept turning up for each other. 

“I did a full pre-season at fullback with leigh, came here preparing to play in the centres but then straight away moved to full-back! Today was just about getting playing again and blowing them cobwebs personally and I’m happy with how the team played. 

“When I’m at Bradford I will do my best for the team, if I’m playing week in week out I am happy to be here, I would rather be playing than be sat in the stands. 

“I was a bit nervous about coming but as soon as I got through the door, I was amazed by the facilities and the warmth of the staff, the boys are class and I slotted in quite well. 

“It’s a Super League standard side and we’re now in a semi-final, I have actually played in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup final before so it would be great to go with the boys and play there.”
