FANS' FAVOURITE FLANAGAN STAYS
Bradford Bulls are delighted to announce newly crowned Fans’ Player of the Year George Flanagan has signed a new one-year deal with the club!
The 35-year-old has enjoyed a stellar year in the red, amber and black – picking up two awards at the End of Season Awards Ceremony including the ASN Doors Hitman of the Year.
A graduate of the club’s famed Academy set up, the boyhood Bradford fan completed a return in 2018 and has been a key figure ever since.
The effervescent talisman has spoken about how he and the team are eager to head in 2023 looking to right some wrongs.
“I am delighted to be staying, it was an easy decision having spoken to Mark a few weeks ago I jumped at the chance to stay,” said Flanagan, who is sponsored by Captain Hornblower, Carol and Tony.
“I don’t want to dwell too much on what has happened this year, now it is all about looking forward, coming back refreshed and putting my best foot forward in 2023.
“I just want to keep playing as long as I can and contributing to the team, this year I have had games playing longer minutes than normal so if I can add value to the team then I will try do that.
“I wear my heart on my sleeve and I pride myself on being a leader on and off the pitch, driving the culture and standards and I look forward to doing more of that next year and helping some of the younger blokes in the team.
“This year hasn’t gone as planned but we learn from our mistakes, there are a lot of lessons to be learned and we can go into next year looking to really put a stamp on things and right some wrongs.
“It gives us extra motivation and Mark [Dunning] will do an exceptional job with the players and the staff, we are going to give it a good go.”
Mark Dunning also commented on George putting pen to paper to stay at the club for another season.
"I'm obviously really pleased, you can see from his performances in the second half of the season what he brings to the group and the club, it's a credit to the board that they managed to get it done", said Mark, who is sponsored by Crystal Clear Bi-Folds.
"There's plenty of life in George, he is carrying himself particularly well throughout the season and in training, he is a real leader and an example in and around the senior member of the team.
"We are looking to change cultures and behaviours at the club, he epitomises the culture and he understands what it means to the city and the people of the city and we need to encapsulate that more. George will be a big asset going forward for the club and the team.
"I spoke to George about what's after his career, we are going to get him started on coaching badges. It won't happen straight away but we want him to do little bits in that area as a mentor role and it's something for him to work on for the future."
