GR-EIGHT BULLS RUN RIOT AT RAMS
Bradford Bulls started their 2022 Betfred Championship campaign in style with an eight-try 46-16 demolition of Dewsbury Rams at the Tetley’s Stadium.
A quickfire Matty Dawson-Jones double preceded a debut score from Dec Patton as the Bulls ran riot early doors.
Dewsbury hit back after pressure from Ross Peltier but a stroll in for Elliot Kear handed the visitors a healthy advantage at the break.
The second half started in similar fashion as Dee Foggin-Johnston latched onto the end of a break from the impressive AJ Wallace before the latter raced home from 60 metres for a debut try of his own.
Kieran Gill then grabbed himself a trademark double – sandwiching back-to-back Dewsbury scores – for an impressive opening day for John Kear’s side.
The Bradford boss handed debuts to the likes of Dec Patton, Kieran Gill and Jordan Baldwinson, but it was a familiar face who opened the scoring for the visitors.
Kear sent a delicate kick in-behind, after a Bradford penalty which saw Dawson-Jones acrobatically finish, with his second coming in similar fashion soon after.
Dewsbury had a period of pressure, but superb defence kept them out, with Bradford turning defence into attack as Patton barged his way over from close range.
The home side did then find an opening score, as former Bull Ross Peltier barged over after several sets on the visitors line.
Before the break however, a superb solo break by loanee Mustapha saw Doyle cart the ball up field, with an overload then occurring with Kear finishing off to score.
Bradford started the second half in similar fashion, as another great move saw Wallace break the line, with Foggin-Johnston supporting to score.
Beharrell then sent a kick high, although the ball was patted straight into the grateful arms of Wallace who raced 60m to dive over.
Debutant Gill then dummied his way over for his first competitive try in Bradford colours, before two scores from Dewsbury reduced the arrears.
Gill rounded off the scoring with his second to complete an opening day triumph.
